JOHN BROWNS BODY

John Brown’s Body’s “Future Roots” uses reggae as a foundation, but incorporates dub, drum and bass, and electro to create a sound both timeless and forward. Described by LA2DAY as “delivering the most forward-thinking reggae music in the world today” the 8-piece band’s killer live show has super heavy rhythms, a three piece horn section, air tight drum and bass and “the most gorgeous melodies in all of modern reggae music” [All Music Guide], all backed by a dubbed-out sound engineer. However it’s defined, it’s got people buzzing about this progressive band from Boston and Ithaca, NY who’s latest album, Amplify, debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Reggae Chart.

DJ Logic

DJ Logic

Turntable maestro DJ Logic (real name Jason Kibler) is widely credited for helping to bring jazz into hip-hop’s sphere of influence. Hailing from the Bronx, he kicked off his adventures on the decks in the 1980s by playing at local community events. The next decade,

however, saw him growing rapidly in stature as a pro musician. First he joined the group Eye & I, performing with such bands as Living Color and Body Count. He then hooked up with talented jazz trio MMW (keyboardist John Medeski, drummer Billy Martin, and bassist Chris Wood), touring heavily and working on the celebrated Combustication record.

He released his debut album, the aptly titled Project Logic, to wide critical acclaim in 1999. Two years later, he was again collecting plaudits en masse after putting out the cutting-edge Anomaly album. Logic surfaced alongside guitarist Vernon Reid in 2002 for Front End Lifter, a fun, adventurous album the two recorded as Yohimbe Brothers and then toured behind late in the year.

Willie Waldman

Willie Waldman

For Willie Waldman every gig is like a band debut. With one important exception: Every member is not only talented but vastly experienced. That is the intrigue of the Willie Waldman Project. The band is ever-changing as Waldman pulls noted musicians from all styles and geographical locations to play free form music created on the spot. This represents the true history of Jazz!

After several years of playing and touring with Freeworld, Willies drive brought him to California in 1994 to meet up with friend and engineer David Aron. At the time, Dave was working with Death Row Studios mixing and recording Snoop Dog’s latest release and Snoop wanted to polish the disc with a brass touch. Willie was in the City of Angels less than one week and was already recording with Raps biggest superstar! He went on to record with Tupac Shakur, The Dogg Pound, Dazz & Kurupt, K Ci & Jo Jo, Exhibit and Nate Dogg. Although the situation was different, the experience and musical level was never the less very much the same. It proved valuable as well because this eventually led to session work on studio soundtracks such as Tombstone, Under Seige 2 and 101 Dalmations and also many commercials.

In 1997 Willie met Perry Farrell of Janes Addiction. Willie states, “Perry opened the door to the whole alternative rock scene for me. I did horn parts for Perry’s project Gobalee using the original Earth, Wind & Fire horn section and went on to meet Janes Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins.” A Waldman and Perkin’s friendship ensued and Willie played, wrote and co-produced the second Banyan recording Anytime at All including some of Willie’s original Memphis crew Clint Wagner and Ross Rice. Working with Clint and Ross also brought Willie yet another musical connection with the introduction of Rob Wasserman of the Grateful Dead. Wille recorded on Wasserman’s Space Island project and Willie was once again, an integral part of the project, writing, playing and co producing.

Triggers & Slips

index.html

Triggers and Slips music is steeped in the psychology of relationships. Like so much great country music that came before, theirs originates in personal mistakes and stepped on hearts. While the band’s music is a blend that’s not quite country and not quite rock n’ roll, and not quite alt-country either, fans of both types of music have come to love their sound. It doesn’t matter if you want to bang your head, sit and cry into your whiskey, or fortify yourself with enough righteous anger to burn down the one that did you wrong’s house after you hacked his email and found out which bitch he was cheating on you with, Triggers and Slips has your number.

The PourHorse

index.html

pour horse = fiona apple + joe bonamassa listed as alternative, a spin of pour horse’s recent release (flood lake city) raises the question: alternative to what? hearing the tight knit of funk, r&b, rock, blues and jazz, one must answer: an alternative to “alternative.” pour horse is a standing retort to whatever buttless musical twaddle has made alternative synonymous with “generic.” keyboardist nik grainger sings actual soulful melodies—something woefully lacking among male-fronted acts—which he inflects with dark chord voicings. further, the band arranges keys and guitar (jeremy whitesides) as complements rather than mere doubles of one another. performances of such finesse are only possible from musician’s musicians, and, indeed, other bands comprise the better part of pour horse’s audience. more should lend an ear. –brian kubarycz of slug magazine.

GiGi Love

index.html

I’ve been playing for over 14 years in the west and the US. I love my community in Utah and have been supported 100% by the radio, festival and musicial family. I think Uncle Uncanny is a great festival that needs to happen every year, for the diversity, culture and music it brings to the homogenized state of Utah. I think there are not enough women headliners as a part of our festivals out west, and I can add to that diversity as an original songwriter with a 3 piece band. Thanks for the love, Gigi

Formed in 2009 amongst the crowded corners of an vintage travel-trailer restoration shop as a power trio, this group began the rebirth of 90’s rock sounds perfectly accentuated with their “folky” Montanain fluences and the angst of a teenage metal-head. After completing their first album [Airstream Safari], surviving lineup changes, touring the Pacific Northwest and playing locally, it is easy to see the dedication to spreading their unique, energetic and dance-able sound has only just begun. With haunting and memorable songwriting, powerfully-skilled drumming and soul gripping bass lines, these gentlemen will surely make you stand up and take notice.
